Loan packages help to power energy business

For Jeremy Thamert, owner of Oregon Power Solutions, eating lunch with his banker led to a discussion about the possibility of packaging government-backed loans, grants and tax credits to help area homeowners, ranchers and business operators fund energy efficiency, renewable energy and historical preservation projects.

"When I told Jeremy Gilpin I wanted to put together local packages combining energy efficiency, renewable energy and historic renovation projects, he jumped all over that," Thamert said.

Gilpin is the senior commercial loan officer at Community Bank in Baker City.

"We started brainstorming and came up with some ideas that proved to be very successful," Thamert said, adding that he and Gilpin haven't been turned down for a single grant, government-backed loan or tax credit application in the year or so since they started packaging those programs.
